OverDrive: eBooks & Audiobooks: About

What is OverDrive?

OverDrive is a service from the Dalton Library that you can use to check out popular e-Books and audiobooks for your eReader, laptop, or mobile device - anytime, anywhere.  You will find new, current titles as well as some classic favorites in our Library Catalog.

OverDrive Help gives customized help for you computer or device.

Click on the icon above to access OverDrive Help.

How does it work?

Click on the "Get Started" tab above to download the app and start checking out some great eBooks and audioBooks.

How many items may I check out?

You may check out up to 3 items at once.

How long may I keep the books?

The default lending period for e-Books is 21 days.  You may select a shorter lending period of 7 or 14 days by opening your Account Preferences to change your desired lending period.  Look for this icon  at the cop of the BORROW page.

How do I return my items?

You do not have to return your items because they automatically expire at the end of the lending period.  Certain items can be returned early - for device-specific instructions on returning your items before the expiration, refer to the tab above.

Can I renew my items?

Items cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again after they expire if they are still available.

Can I place items on hold?

  1. Click PLACE A HOLD next to the item that you want.
  2. Sign in to your OverDrive account.
  3. Enter and confirm your email address. (The first time you place a Hold you will be asked to enter your birthdate.)
